Play Leaders

Play leaders are Year 5 children who lead playground games at lunchtimes, including activities such as skipping, ball games and games requiring no equipment. Any child can join in organised games or learn to play new games independently.

Play leaders also organise the equipment for the small games such as french skipping, jacks etc. Play leaders support children being more independent, initiating games, teaching others and also encouraging different year groups to play together.  It particularly helps to involve those children who are new to the school such as Year 3.

In return, the children develop leadership skills, organise the training for the Year 4 children in the summer term and are rewarded for their work by going to first lunch sitting.

Some of our Year 6 children also visit our younger pupils at the Infant school and organise lunchtime games for them once a week.
